BJP in Assam has ruled out that state unit president Bhabesh Kalita will be replaced. The party is planning a massive rally in Guwahati on October 8 which will be attended by the national president J P Nadda and Union Home minister Amit Shah.

Party’s Chief Spokesperson in Assam and MP, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa stated, “Under the leadership of Kalita, the party has been carrying out massive programmes thus extending its reach far and wide ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, 2024".

Refuting the reports of leadership change, Tasa said that there is no truth in it and termed the reports as nothing but speculative. “A huge rally under leadership of Kalita will be held in Khanapara in Guwahati on October 8 and will be attended by 40,000 people. This is an indicator to the fact that there is no discussion whatsoever in the higher echelons of the party regarding change of party leadership in the state," said Tasa.

He added that BJP has a wide and strong support base in the state with over 40 district committees, 400 mandals and 6,500 shakti kendras besides eight numbers of morchas encompassing different ethnic communities and all sections of people living in Brahmaputra and Barak valleys. More than 45 lakh party workers are engaged with 28,000 booth committees in the state.

Kalita became president last year after state unit chief of Assam Ranjit Kumar Dass was inducted into the Council of ministers. Kalita is MLA from Rangia and has been associated with BJP’s ideological mentor, Rastriya Sayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Kalita was minister of state for education in the earlier BJP led government.
