Assam BJP plans to make Modi goverment's 3rd anniversary event a grand affair

GUWAHATI: State BJP in Assam is planning a grand event to celebrate Modi government's third anniversary.

Elaborate arrangements have been made for the May 26, which is also the first anniversary of the BJP-led government in Assam.

The whole city has been given a fresh look for the mega rally in the Khanapara, Guwahati to be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 26 to mark the third anniversary of NDA government in the Centre.


The party is expecting a turnout of over one lakh for the rally. Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu and Manipur, N. Biren Singh are likely to attend the function.

Just couple of days before his Assam visit, Modi has made one-night stays mandatory for the Union Ministers visiting the north-eastern states.

Earlier Modi has initiated fortnight visits of Union Ministers to the region.

Assam Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal has hailed the Union government's decision that is meant to send out a message that Northeast is safe. Talking to ET, he said, this will go a long way in promoting tourism.

BJP's Assam state president Ranjeet Kumar Das told ET, “Preparations for 2019 Lok Sabha polls have already started. Modi is likely to sound poll bugle for the Lok Sabha polls from Guwahati.”

BJP has won all the elections since 2014 in Assam. Das said, “Our party workers are fully geared up to face the Pachayat polls and corporation poll of Guwahati Municipal Corporation to be held shortly.”
