Guwahati: For the first time, the Assam assembly session was held outside Guwahati. On Monday, the one-day session of the Assam assembly commenced at the Bodo Territorial Council (BTC) Assembly Hall, Kokrajhar, with an address by Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya.

The Sixth Schedule area of BTC was besieged by insurgency and had witnessed violent incidents for several years. There was a movement in the area demanding a separate state of Bodoland. MLAs and ministers travelled by bus from Guwahati to Kokrajhar, roughly 220 km.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "Today's session marks the highest point in my political career. The area had seen a movement for a separate state. However, since 2019, after the Bodo Accord, there is peace and development." Union home minister Amit Shah stated on X, "This is a significant step towards fulfilling PM @narendramodi Ji's vision to accelerate the development of our Bodo sisters and brothers..."

AIUDF MLA Karim Uddin Barbhuiya said it is a great initiative to go outside for one-day assembly session. Congress MLA Abdur Rashid Mandal said, "It is a historical budget session that will start outside the capital. I think that will give a message to the people of the Sixth Schedule area."
