Assam announces commission to inquire recent clashes between minority and Bodo

The One man Commission of Inquiry will ascertain the root causes leading to the clashes between the minority and the Bodo and subsequent violence.

GUWAHATI: Assam Government has constituted a one man Commission of Inquiry headed by Justice (Retd.) Mutum B.K. Singh, Judge of Gauhati High Court, Guwahati to inquire into the clashes between the minority and the Bodo communities that took place in kokrajhar, Chirang, Dhubri, Bongaigaon and other districts from July 19, 2012 leading to death of many persons and loss of properties and displacement of more than 4 lakh people taking shelter in relief camps.

The One man Commission of Inquiry will ascertain the root causes leading to the clashes between the minority and the Bodo and subsequent violence.

It will also identify the individuals and/ or organizations responsible or the violence and will also fix responsibility. The Commission will also determine the lapses, if any, on the part of civil and police administration in tackling the situation.

Moreover it will determine whether any individual or organization, be it official or non-official, caused or facilitated the large scale exodus of population outside the Boloand territorial autonomous districts ( BTAD) area.

The Commission will further give appropriate recommendations for ensuring long term peace and ethnic harmony in the BTAD areas amongst all communities, apart from deciding any other matter pertinent to the inquiry. The Commission of Inquiry will submit its report within 6 (six) months.
