Jaipur: Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday gave a "Delhi Chalo" call, urging people, particularly the youth, to join a march to the Supreme Court on Monday to submit a memorandum to the Chief Justice of India against alleged suppression of protests and electoral irregularities.

Gehlot alleged that the central government had turned Delhi into a fortress to suppress peaceful protests by young people, while the Election Commission remained a mute spectator to alleged large-scale vote theft.

"Our young colleagues are struggling on the streets to protect democracy. The way the central government has turned Delhi into a fortress to suppress the peaceful voice of the youth, and the Election Commission remains a mute spectator on the issue of large-scale vote theft, is a major crisis facing the country," he said in a post on X.

The senior Congress leader said the opposition, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, stood firmly against the "dictatorial approach".

Gehlot's 'Delhi Chalo' call comes amid protests in the national capital against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, demanding his resignation over alleged irregularities linked to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The Cockroach Janta Party and opposition parties have raised concerns over alleged wrongful deletions of voters and called for greater transparency in the revision process.

Opposition parties have announced a protest march to the Supreme Court on Monday over their demands. The Congress is calling it "Chalo Delhi - March for Democracy" and said they would converge at 1.30 PM at Connaught Place-Barakhamba Road junction.

Leaders of Opposition (LoPs) in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha -- Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge -- had written to the CJI for a meeting with him between 4 and 5 PM on Monday to hand over a memorandum, demanding an end to 'vote chori', CEC Gyanesh Kumar's resignation, halting of SIR and switching back to paper ballot.

Sources on Sunday, however, said that the CJI has not agreed to meet the LoPs. They did not elaborate further.

"Tomorrow, we are going to take out an important march to submit a memorandum to the Hon'ble Chief Justice of India against this injustice," he said.

Gehlot appealed to people, particularly young people, to participate in the march, describing it as a struggle to protect democracy and the Constitution.

"I appeal to all of you, particularly the youth, to ensure your participation in this struggle to save democracy and the Constitution," he said.
