Religious leaders should disseminate message of social distancing: PM Modi to states

The religious leaders should ask community members to avoid large scale gathering, the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minster also stressed on a common exit strategy among states to ensure a staggered re-emergence of the population once the lockdown gets over.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his interaction with state chief ministers, asked them to urge religious leaders to disseminate the message of social distancing.

The religious leaders should ask community members to avoid large scale gathering, the Prime Minister said.

The message came after the a religious gathering in Delhi's Nizamuddin area held between March 1-15 has now become one of the biggest hotspots of Covid-19 disease in the country.


The meeting of the Tablighi Jamaat was the reason behind 20% of total reported cases so far, with 19 casualties across different states.

The Prime Minster also stressed on a common exit strategy among states to ensure a staggered re-emergence of the population once the lockdown gets over.
