Asia Cup: India wins toss, bats first against Pakistan

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat first against Pakistan in Asia Cup.

KARACHI: India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss Wednesday and elected to bat first against an injury-hit Pakistan in their Super Fours round match of the Asia Cup.

Pakistan suffered a blow when its regular captain Shoaib Malik failed a fitness test, leaving Misbah-ul-Haq to lead the team in a must-win match for the hosts.

Malik failed to recover sufficiently from dehydration suffered during Pakistan's 64-run defeat against defending champion Sri Lanka on Sunday.

Left-handed opener Nasir Jamshed playing his first match of the tournament replaced Malik in the batting order.

Pakistan needing a victory to keep its hopes alive for the July 6 final made two other changes to its XI, with fast bowler Abdur Rauf and offspinner Saeed Ajmal included in place of Wahab Riaz and Mansoor Amjad.

Left-arm paceman Irfan Pathan recovered from the side strain that kept him out of the first three matches in the tournament to replace Manpreet Gony as one of four changes made in the Indian side.

Opening batsman Virender Sehwag, paceman Praveen Kumar and leg-spinner Piyush Chawla returned to the side replacing Robin Uthappa, R.P. Singh and Pragyan Ojha.
