Ashwani Kumar assumes charge as Director General of Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education
DEHRADUN: Ashwani Kumar, a 1980 batch Indian Forest Service officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, today assumed office here as the Director General of Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE).

Kumar has held many key positions including Principal Chief Conservator of Forests to the Uttar Pradesh government.

Soon after joining as the DG, ICFRE, Kumar said the council will strengthen the mechanism of inter-disciplinary and inter-institutional approach in forestry research at the national and international level.

Describing ICFRE as the apex body in the national forestry research system, he said it has been undertaking holistic development of forestry research through need based planning.

The Council deals with solution based forestry research which is in tune with the emerging issues in the sector, including global concerns such as climate change, conservation of biological diversity, combating desertification and sustainable management and development of resources, he said.
