Asaram Bapu allotted cell where Salman Khan, Mahipal Maderna earlier stayed

JODHPUR: Jodhpur's central jail is in limelight once again. Having hosted celebrities and politicians earlier, this time the jail is hosting the (in) famous spiritual guru Asaram Bapu, who was sent here by the court on Monday evening.

Earlier, actor Salman Khan, sacked water resources minister Mahipal Maderna and MLA Malkhan Singh Bishnoi had stayed in the jail. Asaram has been allotted barrack no.1, which was earlier allotted to Maderna.

"He has been allotted barrack no. 1, which has been vacated and prepared for him but without any special facility", said a source at the jail. He said the reason behind accommodating him in barrack no. 1 is to keep an eye on him considering his age and ensure easy access.

Jail administration will be extra cautious as far as his health is concerned. The defence counsel had sought special attention to his health. The court left it to the jail administration to decide on best possible medical assistance to him.

"The facilities are very basic and nothing special has been provided to him. He had asked for a calm and peaceful environment," the source said. Asaram will be the sole inmate in the barrack so that he can comfortably practice meditation.

According to jail sources, he was calm and not demanding. "He, however, told us about his routine and we will think of working upon it," the source said. Asaram will be provided jail food.

"He also expressed his wish to be allowed to wear his routine dress (white chola and dhoti), which has been granted," he added. He has also been allowed to take his medicines.
