GUWAHATI: While dissidence camp in Assam mounted pressure on the AICC to convene congress legislature party (CLP) meeting on the leadership issue, the stalemate continues as pro chief minister Tarun Gogoi camp is in no mood to given in to CLP demand.

There is no end in sight to dissidence drama in Assam which intensified after May 16 soon after the Lok Sabha results were declared. Assam is facing policy paralyses as faction riddled politics has kept the ministers busy in shuttling between Guwahati and New Delhi.

AICC panel constituted to work out comprise formula is yet to come up with solution acceptable to both the groups. A senior leader in AICC told ET, "Gogoi is being backed by the party high command however some key leaders in AICC who are managing party affairs are opposed to him."

The leader hinted that there is a possibility of two or three AICC observers coming to Assam very soon and talking to each MLA individually and than giving report to the high command. "It seems this the only solution to break the ongoing impasse."

Leader of dissidence group, Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma held a series of meetings with AICC observer Ghulam Nabi Azad and general secretary in-charge Dr CP Joshi on Thursday.

The disgruntle leaders have hinted that the ongoing political uncertainty in Assam is likely to be over in four-five days.

A senior leader in Assam Pradesh congress committee told ET, "The internal bickering in congress is setting the stage for BJP to emerge as the powerful alternative to congress in the Assam."

He elaborated already BJP is widening its base in the state and such political uncertainty has demoralized the congress workers in the grassroots. "We are witnessing exodus of party workers to BJP in different places."
