Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress on Saturday mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi's aborted visit to Nadia's Taherpur, claiming the BJP's 2026 election campaign in West Bengal had been "halted by bad weather", just as the Prime Minister's helicopter failed to land ahead of a public rally.

TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said Modi's speech had "disappointed" the Matua community, which, he claimed, was living in fear and uncertainty following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bengal.

"The Matuas are in a state of fear and apprehension after the SIR. No message for the community was heard today. The Prime Minister came empty-handed and offered no roadmap for the Matua community," Ghosh said. He added that Modi made no reference to issues such as MGNREGA or the Awas Yojana. Claiming that Modi had intended to launch the BJP's 2026 poll campaign from Bengal, Ghosh said, "The first rally itself witnessed an act of God - 'kursi ki peti bandh lijiye' (tie your seat belt). The weather has turned against the Bengal BJP." He alleged that despite large-scale unmapping of Matua voters under the SIR, the Prime Minister did not utter "a single word" on the issue.
