Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Siddaramaiah has wondered why the CM was keen on dividing Ballari when the much larger Belagavi remained undivided.
Congress leader and former Deputy Chief Minister G.Parameshwara has urged Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa to divide Tumakuru district, and carve a new district with Madhugiri as the headquarters of new district.

Parameshwara had represented Madhugiri in the Assembly before, and now represents its neighbouring constituency of Koratagere. His family hails from Tumakuru district.

He wants the taluks of Sira, Pavagada, Madhugiri and Koratagere to be clubbed, and declared as a new district.

Parameshwara's demand follows Yediyurappa's moves to place before the Cabinet on Thursday the subject of dividing Ballari district and create the new Vijayanagara district, amid protests from sections of BJP and the Congress. Sections of leaders have even called for a Ballari bandh on Tuesday to protest the proposed move.

Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Siddaramaiah has wondered why the CM was keen on dividing Ballari when the much larger Belagavi remained undivided. “They (BJP) are going to divide Ballari district only to help Anand Singh, and this is highly incorrect,” the former CM tweeted. Belagavi district, he said, has 18 Assembly segments while Ballari has just 10.
