As Covid-19 cases increase, Karnataka restricts large gatherings

The state has directed marriage halls, party halls and organisers of events to restrict the number of attendees from anywhere between 50 and 500 depending on if the event is held in outdoor or indoor settings.

Karnataka government issued new Covid-19 guidelines on Friday restricting large public gatherings at marriage and other celebrations amid the rise in the number of infections.

The state has directed marriage halls, party halls and organisers of events to restrict the number of attendees from anywhere between 50 and 500 depending on if the event is held in outdoor or indoor settings.

The target for Covid tests has also been increased in eight districts including Bengaluru urban where the rise in cases is quite evident.


The number of Covid cases continued to see a surge with 833 people infected with the virus on Friday. A large number of these cases (526) were from Bengaluru urban. The capital has seen a sharp rise in cases over the last few days. With the increasing cases, the case positivity rate as against the number of tests made which was 0.50% a few days ago has reached 1.13%.
