New Delhi: An upbeat Bihar unit of the BJP has said that the resignation of the newly inducted minister Kartik Kumar, accused in a kidnapping case, is the beginning of the end for the grand alliance government in the state.

"Nitish Kumar cannot save the image of his government by just removing one person from the cabinet," Sanjay Mayukh, BJP's national spokesman told ET on Thursday, a day after Kumar resigned from the government amid mounting pressure from the opposition BJP.

On Thursday, Kumar's anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Danapur divisional court. "Our battle has just begun, and we will keep raising issues of public interest and attacking the government over corruption," said Mayukh.

The BJP has been attacking the grand alliance government ever since chief minister Nitish Kumar expanded his cabinet on August 16 and inducted Kumar.

BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi said the first wicket of the Bihar government has fallen and many more will fall going ahead. He also challenged the CM to arrest Kumar as his bail has been rejected by the court.

The ruling alliance - comprising the RJD, JD(U) and Congress - however said they do not need any morality lessons from the BJP.

"In our case, Kartik Kumar had protection till September 1. He resigned a day before to face the judiciary, showing great respect for the rule of law," senior RJD leader Manoj Jha told ET. "One of their (BJP's) chief ministers presided over a cabinet meeting, where he withdrew all cases against himself."
