New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal will finally become a resident of the city that he is chief minister of. Kejriwal is expected to move into his new house on Tilak Lane over the weekend. He had initially requested for two flats, one to be used as office, but the demand has been dropped for now.

Sources said most of the family’s belongings have already been moved and the family could shift either on Saturday or Sunday. At present, the family lives in an Indian Revenue Services flat allotted to Kejriwal’s wife in Kaushambi, Ghaziabad.

Their new ground-floor house, C-II /23 at Tilak Lane, is near the Patiala House court. It is a corner flat with three bedrooms , two servant quarters and a common garage, spread over almost 1,600 square feet. There is also a lawn in front of the house where the CM could meet people.

The flat, earlier with the director of estates, was handed over to PWD which has been looking after its maintenance.

Kejriwal was earlier allotted two duplex flats on Bhagwan Das Road for which he was severely criticized.

Each of the duplex flats had five bedrooms and a lawn and covered a total area of 9,000 sq ft. Kejriwal, who had refused to move into a bungalow because they were too ostentatious, had refused these flats claiming that his supporters were against the move.

Sources said that for the time being, Kejriwal would not press for another flat for office use but would wait and see if additional space would be required.
