Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal tabled a confidence motion in the assembly on Monday to prove that the "BJP's Operation Lotus" had failed in Delhi, a move that was panned by the opposition as a political gimmick and waste of public money and time.

Kejriwal moved the motion in the morning amid unruly scenes in the assembly. The opposition BJP, which has eight MLAs in the 70-member House, had given a notice to Speaker Rakhi Birla requesting a discussion on Delhi government's excise policy. Birla, however, rejected the request and BJP MLAs entered the well of the House. Within minutes Birla suspended the opposition MLAs for the entire day and ordered they be marshalled out. The BJP MLAs were physically carried out of the House. This was followed by the introduction of the confidence motion.

Kejriwal accused the BJP of inflicting taxes on the common man and using that money to "buy MLAs and destabilise democratically elected governments". "You will see in the coming days the Jharkhand government will fall and just around that time petrol or diesel prices will go up.

The money earned from such a hike - which is borne by the common man - goes in buying MLAs and destabilising the governments. They were trying to do the same in Delhi but they failed. This confidence motion is a proof that Operation Lotus has failed in Delhi," Kejriwal said. Likening the BJP government to the British imperialists he said "the current BJP dispensation is as cruel as the British".

AAP Seeks Probe Against LG

AAP has demanded a probe into LG's role in an alleged ₹1,400 crore scam. AAP MLAs launched an overnight vigil at the assembly to demand a probe in what it is calling a "Khadi scam".
