Arvind Kejriwal played politics with Jan Lokpal Bill: Congress

NEW DELHI: Delhi Congress today accused Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of playing politics on the issue of Jan Lokpal Bill, saying voting in the assembly was held only on the message of the Lt Governor and the party had not refused to give support to the anti-corruption law.

"Congress only backed the Lt Governor's message to the Speaker regarding the Jan Lokpal Bill but it did not oppose the Jan Lokpal Bill," said Delhi Congress President Arvinder Singh Lovely in a press statement.

Kerjriwal had yesterday resigned as Delhi Chief Minister shortly after his government was defeated on the issue of tabling of the Janlokpal Bill in Delhi assembly in the face of a united resistance by outside supporter Congress and opposition BJP.

Lt Governor Najeeb Jung had advised the assembly against transacting the Jan Lokpal Bill which he said should have prior clearance of the central government.

Lovely's statement charged Kejriwal-led Delhi government had "misguided" and "misled" the people in the matter of giving power and water subsidy.

The press statement added the subsidy in power and water would be given only upto March and this had proved that AAP government had "totally failed" to honour the promises made to the people.

Evaluating its own internal party dissensions which might cause the fall of the government, Kejriwal tendered his resigantion, it said.

"The decision to give 700 litres of free potable water, restricted to only a few people, was also only upto March, and by implementing the Rs 372-crore subsidy only upto March, Kejriwal played tricks with the people," said Lovely in the statement.
