Arvind Kejriwal not to keep any portfolio
New Delhi: Arvind Kejriwal spent a chunk of his speech post his swearing-in to clear any speculation that AAP was raring to go national all over again inspired by the Delhi landslide. He even seemed to admonish a few colleagues who had hinted so in the last few days. But all that speculation came back to chase him by the evening when it was clear that Kejriwal wouldn’t be looking after any portfolios as Delhi CM.

Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia who will be handling the crucial portfolios of finance and planning, revenue, services, power, education, among others, sought to clear the air in his evening press conference saying Kejriwal has unequivocally stated in his speech that AAP will focus on Delhi for next five years.

Soon, Kejriwal himself took to Twitter to clear the air on why he was keeping himself free as against his last stint when he kept power, finance and vigilance with him. “I don’t think CM should micromanage any one ministry/I will devote myself to finding systemic solutions to Delhi’s problems in implementing them. This includes tech as well as governance solutions. Also, I will regularly monitor the work of all ministers and MLAs and hold them accountable,” he said in a series of tweets.

Earlier in the day, when Sisodia was asked about the specific ways in which the government plans to engage with citizens, and if that would mean reviving “janata darbars”, even holding those every day, Sisodia said all announcements will come in due course but for now, no “daily janata darbars” have been planned.

The second most influential man in the AAP, Sisodia will be an indispensable part of the Delhi govt. In his earlier stint as minister for education, PWD and urban development in the Kejriwal ministry, Sisodia revised project estimates downwards, as against the norm of revising costs upwards.

He worked as journalist in Zee News and All India Radio.

He quit journalism in 2006 to function as a full-time RTI activist and was one of the founding members of the Janlokpal agitation. Prominent in the anti-graft campaign led by Anna Hazare in 2011, he was imprisoned.
