Arvind Kejriwal collected lakhs for NGO: Digvijay

Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Sunday accused Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal of flouting service rules while serving as an IRS.

LUCKNOW: Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Sunday accused Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal of flouting service rules while serving as an Indian Revenue Service officer and collecting lakhs of rupees for his NGO through donations.

Singh told this to reporters after addressing a dalit conference organized by Congress in Azamgarh. When asked about the notice served to Kejriwal by the income tax department, Singh said it had been issued to the former bureaucrat in 2005.

He accused Kejriwal of not only flouting service rules but also being involved in politics and collecting huge amount of money for his NGO from unknown quarters while still in service. "Government rules cannot be changed for a person only because he had participated in some stir against corruption," Singh said.

The Congress general secretary, however, stayed away from making any harsh comments on Anna Hazare. When asked to draw a comparison between Baba Ramdev and Anna, the Congress leader said Baba Ramdev is a "thug" and a "cheat", whereas Hazare is a social worker and that is the reason why the Congress-led UPA government reacted to his demands.
