Karnataka government today appointed Arvind Jadhav as the new Chief Secretary.

BENGALURU: Karnataka government today appointed Arvind Jadhav as the new Chief Secretary.

Jadhav, a 1978-batch IAS officer, is currently the Chairman of Karnataka Appellate Tribunal.

The appointment is with effect from December 31, the government notification said.

He succeeds Kaushik Mukherjee who is retiring from the service on superannuation. Mukherjee, who was to retire on September 30, was given three months of extension.

Amid reports that K Ratnaprabha, Additional Chief Secretary, Commerce and Industries Department, and S K Pattanayak, Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, were the front-runners, Jadhav's appointment has come as a surprise as he would attain superannuation on June 5.
