Arunima Sinha also has spine fracture

National-level volleyball player who lost her left leg after being pushed out of a speeding train by robbers has fracture in the spine too.

NEW DELHI: National-level volleyball player Arunima Sinha, who lost her left leg after being pushed out of a speeding train by robbers and is undergoing treatment at AIIMS, has fracture in the spine too.

Though her condition is stable however a CT Scan of her spine showed fracture, doctors treating her said.

23-yer-old Arunima, also a national level football player, was admitted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre last night after it was detected that her amputated left leg had been infected.

"We did her spine assessment and the CT Scan of the spine showed fracture there. After opening the bandages of the amputated leg we found the infection there was minimal," AIIMS Trauma Centre chief Dr M C Misra, who is looking into Arunima's case, said.

Doctors conducted a CT Scan after she complained of severe pain in her back. Last night, her haemoglobin level had fallen drastically and she had to be given blood and plasma, he said.

"She is very cheerful now. She had a good sleep last night. But she will take time to reconcile and rehabilitate," Misra said.

Both the long bones of her right leg were also fractured.

"There are many sports prosthesis available and there are sportsperson who play with help of prosthetics. Arunima is passionate about sports and a girl with strong determination.," the doctor said.
