Arundhati, Geelani be tried under treason charges: Shivraj Singh Chouhan
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan demanded that writer-social activist Arundhati Roy and Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani be tried as traitors for their remarks on Kashmir.
"Cases of treason should be registered against them on the issue," Chouhan told reporters at village Aanvalia on the second day of his ongoing Vanvasi Yatra while criticising the duo for supporting "Azaad" Kashmir in their speeches recently.
Later, at village Khotda in Khargone district, Chouhan criticised the Centre for not handling Kashmir issue effectively, specially the issue of Pak-Occupied Kashmir.
Referring to the tribal heroes, who laid down their lives for the country's independence, he alleged that that they were not yet given their due respect.
"My government has decided to honour such brave leaders like Tantya Bheel, Bheema Nayak, Raghunath Shah and Shankar Shah by constructing memorials in their honour so that future generations remember them," he said.
The Chief Minister also announced developmental schemes worth Rs 50 lakh for the development of Bhikangaon and also inaugurated and laid foundation stones of development projects worth over Rs 73 crore on the occasion.
