Guwahati: The National People's Party (NPP) has announced a list of 29 candidates for the 60-member assembly polls in Arunachal Pradesh. Polls will take place on April 19.

NPP is an ally of BJP. BJP is part of the NPP led government in Meghalaya. BJP has put up candidates for the two Lok Sabha seats of Arunachal Pradesh and NPP has decided to support the BJP candidates.

In 2021 the BJP emerged victorious by winning 41 seats in Arunachal Pradesh. Three BJP candidates were also declared elected unopposed. The Janata Dal (United) won seven seats, and the National People's Party (NPP) emerged victorious on five seats, the People's Party of Arunachal (PPA) one and Independents two.


Last month four sitting MLAs – two from the opposition Congress and two from National People's Party (NPP) joined the ruling BJP. With this joining BJP's strength increased to 56 along with allies in the 60-member assembly, while the Congress was reduced to two and there are two independent members in the House.

BJP has decided to support Naga Peoples Front (NPF) candidate for Outer Manipur Lok Sabha seat. The party will support the National People's Party (NPP)in two seats in Meghalaya and will support Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) candidate in Nagaland.

BJP is ruling Manipur where NPF is an ally, in Nagaland NDPP is leading the government, BJP is a partner.

Manipur chief minister, N Biren Singh stated in X, “Following the decision by @BJP4India under the guidance of Shri @JPNadda ji, and upholding our alliance principles, I am delighted to share that BJP will lend its support to Lok Sabha Candidates of NPF in the Outer Manipur Constituency for the forthcoming Parliamentary elections in 2024”.

ji, I am pleased to inform that BJP will extend its support to Lok Sabha Candidates of NPP in both the seats of Meghalaya (Shillong and Tura), to NPF in the Outer Manipur Constituency and to NDPP in Nagaland in the ensuing Parliamentary elections 2024.”

The Naga People's Front (NPF) Central Working Committee (WC) has approved the name of Kachui Timothy Zimik as NPF official candidate for Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency. The party has denied a ticket to sitting MP Lorho S. Pfoze.

NPP has fielded candidate Dr. Ampareen Lyngdoh for the Shillong Lok Sabha Constituency. The minister in the present government filed her nomination on Friday.

MP of Tura, Agatha K Sangma is renominated by the party. Agatha is sister of Meghalaya chief minister, Conrad Sangma. Agatha was the youngest minister of state in the Manmohan Singh Cabinet during the second term of the UPA regime.

Dr Chumben Murry is the consensus candidate of the ruling People's Democratic Alliance (PDA) in Nagaland. BJP is yet to declare a candidate for the inner Manipur seat.
