ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa and Chief Minister Nabam Tuki have expressed deep shock at the sudden demise of former president A P J Abdul Kalam.

The governor in his condolence message said Kalam, known as the 'Missile Man of India' was a scientist of international repute and had made extraordinary contribution to the growth and development of rocketry missiles and space technology in his capacity as DRDO director.

Rajkhowa said the former president reposed immense faith in the children and youth of the country and closely interacted and always reached out to them, for which he was known as 'Peoples' President'.

He said Kalam always endeavoured his best for the uplift and welfare of the poor, downtrodden and the marginalised sections of the society.

Tuki termed Kalam's death as an irreparable loss to the country and recalled his pivotal role in India's Pokhran-II nuclear test in 1998.

"At this moment of extreme grief, I, my family, colleagues in the government and people of the state convey our deepest condolences to the members of his (Kalam's) family, friends and well wishers and the people of India for this great loss, the chief minister added.
