ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has expressed grief over the demise of veteran Congress leader and Union Minister for Labour and Employment Sis Ram Ola, who passed away this morning after prolonged illness at a Gurgaon-based hospital. He was 83.

"In his death, we have lost a veteran Congress leader who served the country in different capacities. Besides proving his calibre in governance by holding numerous posts in Rajasthan government as well as the Union government, Ola was a social worker who worked for the downtrodden people," Tuki said in a condolence letter to Ola's wife, Shiv Bai Ola.

Ola's initiatives in promoting girls' education in remote areas of Rajasthan had fetched him the prestigious Padma Shri award in 1968.

"Ola will be admired as one of the best administrators and social workers by the people of this country. At this moment of grief, I on behalf of the people of Arunachal Pradesh extend our solidarity and share the pain inflicted on the bereaved family by this irreparable loss," the Chief Minister added in his letter.
