Arun Jaitley lifted 'Govardhan' during Question Hour: Speaker

NEW DELHI: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's feat of fielding queries through entire Question Hour was likened to the lifting of the ' Govardhan Parbat' by Lord Krishna.

"I want to congratulate the Minister who single handedly fielded queries during the entire Question Hour like lifting of the Govardhan (by Lord Krishna)," Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan observed in Hindi.

Her remark came at the end of the Question Hour which saw Jaitley fielding all queries ranging from Defence to Finance, the two portfolios he holds. Jaitley also replied questions related to Commerce Ministry as Minister of State for Commerce Nirmala Sitharaman was abroad.

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna as a child once lifted the Govardhan hill to save his people in Vrindavan from rain fury that came following an instruction from rain God Indra.
