GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday informed that around 133 individuals who feared for their lives due to violence in the panchayat election in West Bengal had sought refuge in Assam's Dhubri District.

Sarma tweeted, "Yesterday, 133 individuals who feared for their lives due to violence in the panchayat election in West Bengal sought refuge in Dhubri District of Assam. We have provided them with shelter in a relief camp, as well as food and medical assistance."

In the West Bengal Panchayat Election violence around 20 people lost their lives. In 2021 after the assembly poll results around 300 to 400 people from North Bengal fled due to violence or anticipating violence in Dhubri and stayed in the relief camp.


The then Governor of West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar had visited the relief camps in Assam.
