Arnab Goswami arrest: We want to thank police, says widow of interior designer

Mumbai: Hours after the police took Arnab Goswami into custody, the widow and daughter of the interior designer who had named the Republic TV editor-in-chief in his suicide note held a press conference, where they said their 2018 complaint against him was closed because he “is an influential person” but appealed that the case should not be politicised .

“We can’t forget the year 2018. We want to thank the Maharashtra Police for standing by a daughter of Maharashtra,” Anvay Naik’s widow Akshata said, addressing reporters from her central Mumbai residence.

In May, Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh announced a reinvestigation into the case, after the family of the interior designer filed a fresh complaint alleging that the case over alleged non-payment of dues against Goswami and others was not properly investigated.


Akshata Naik had at that time put out a video alleging that the previous Maharashtra government headed by Devendra Fadnavis had “knowingly ruined the case”.

“The case was botched up because Goswami was named in the FIR. He is an influential person. We are trying to find out why the investigation was botched up and who helped these three accused in doing so,” Akshata Naik said on Wednesday.

“In the Sushant Singh Rajput’s case, there was no suicide note found, in my husband’s case there was a suicide note. However, never ever while conducting debates in the Rajput’s case, Arnab sportingly said that he too was investigated in a suicide case,” she said, adding: “Don’t politicise the issue. People of India should support us.”

Claiming that Goswami was treated with privilege, daughter Adnya said: “Why was Arnab given privilege as an accused? His statement was recorded in the joint CP’s office. We met Anil Paraskar, SP Raigad several times and also wrote to PMO India. But no one helped us.”

The family claimed that it was in May this year they learnt about a closure report being filed in the case.
