Army rescues 30 persons from flooded area, Jal-Ferozepur rail traffic disrupted
Several villages of the Lohian sub-division of the district on Saturday submerged with flood due to 100 feet breach in Sutlej river in the area and army called in for rescue operation.
Large posse of civil and army persons were deployed for rescue operation after an aerial survey of flood affected area due to heavy water on the railway track, rail traffic on Jalandhar-Ferozepur track was stopped, official sources said.
Till now as many as 30 persons were rescued from the flood affected villagers and army boats were busy in rescue operation, sources said adding that even on the other side of chitti bein (rivulet) some villages including Maida, Sajjanwal, Makhi, Sindrur, Khosa, Nawanpind Kharowal and Raima were flooded with the water from rivulet.
Breach of about 100 feet breach in the area where Chitti bein (rivulet) merge with the Sutlej river near Mundikalu village was noticed in the midnight and within hours about ten villages of the area flooded with water of about 8 to 10 feet, official sources said.
Severely affected villages include Mundikalu, Mundala, Nsirpur, Giddarpindi, Barajot Singh, Nahal and Manak, sources said adding that senior administrative and police officer rushed to the spot and supervising the rescue operation.
