Army foils infiltration bid; 1 militant killed

SRINAGAR: Army foiled an infiltration bid by militants along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, killing one ultra.

Troops patrolling the LoC in Macchil sector of Kupwara noticed some suspicious movement in the wee hours today, defence sources said.

They said the army soldiers challenged the militants, who opened fire on the security forces' positions.

In retaliatory firing, one militant was killed and some arms and ammunition were recovered from the spot, the sources said, adding that the operation was still in progress.
