GUWAHATI: To stamp out the recurring violence in Assam, the Army has been asked to oversee security in the Bodoland Territorial Council.

Home commissioner GD Tripathy told ET, "Army asked to oversee security in the Bodoland Territorial Councilthe government has asked the Army to start operation in Chirang and Bongaigaon."

"The Army will target militant outfits trying to take advantage of the situation," said a source.

Bodoland has two militant outfits, the National Democratic Front of Bodoland-Progressive, which has a ceasefire with the government, and the National Democratic Front of Bodoland under jailed chairman Ranjan Daimary.
