NEW DELHI: The government today gave its nod for setting up of two more Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT) regional benches in Jabalpur and Srinagar.

The Cabinet Committee on Security cleared the proposal, meeting a long-pending demand of armed forces for more AFT benches, official sources said.

AFT has presently regional benches at Chandigarh, Lucknow, Kolkata, Guwahati, Chennai, Kochi, Mumbai and Jaipur while its principal bench is in Delhi.

AFT adjudicates disputes and complaints with respect to appointments, enrolments and conditions of service under the Army Act, 1950, the Navy Act, 1957 and the Air Force Act, 1950.

It is also an appellate authority for orders, findings or sentence of courts-martial held under these Acts and for matters connected to these decisions.
