Armed forces need to regularly update technologies: Andhra Pradesh Governor

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Governor E S L Narasimhan today called upon armed forces to continuously update their technologies to meet new challenges.

Newer forms of destabilisation are entering the world order. The environment is moving towards fighting technology wars and whoever has technology is able to fight that war. Therefore, armed forces should acquire skills to update their technologies, he said.

Narasimhan was speaking as chief guest at the convocation ceremony of the 90th degree engineering and 17th technical entry scheme courses at MCEME (Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering) at Secunderabad.

He said earlier ideology formed the basis of world power but now it has given way to technology. "Those mastering technology are the master today."

He said armed forces need to continuously update their scientific knowledge otherwise they will be left far behind.

In years to come major battles will not be fought on battle grounds. Technology will be used to destroy nations, Narasimhan said and cited the example of cyber terrorism.

As terrorists are acquiring latest technologies, there was a need for armed forces to come out with counter measures, the Governor maintained.
