Arithmetic errors in Jayalalithaa's judgement in disproportionate assets case?
CHENNAI : Opposition parties in Tamil Nadu who have been poring over the copy of the order that acquitted Jayalalithaa and three others in the disproportionate assets case, have raised a red flag.

Simple arithmetic errors show that the calculated value of disproportionate assets could be much more than what has been mentioned in the order, says DMK Chief M Karunanidhi.

"Judge Kumarasamy has said that all loans acquired by Jayalalithaa and others needs to be treated as income. The sum total of all the loans amounts to Rs 24,17,31,274 as per the judgement. But in the list of loans, anybody who knows simple addition will find that it adds up to Rs 10,67,31,274," Karunanidhi has pointed out.

"It is based on this amount (Rs 24,17,31,274) that the judge has ruled that the Rs 66 crore rupees disproportionate assets case is wrong and acquitted them," Karunanidhi added.

While Karunanidhi has urged Karnataka government to immediately proceed on appeal in the Supreme Court, he has raised the suspicion whether this judgement had been prepared much earlier and then later modified in a hurry.

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee Chief EVKS Elangovan has also issued a statement that the judgement in disproportionate assets case is full of errors and that it needs to be revised.
