The government on Wednesday informed the Rajya Sabha that the practice of appointing governors in consultation with CMs could be followed as a matter of convention, adding there was no need to amend Article 155 of the Constitution.

CPI-M MP John Brittas asked if government would consider the proposal given in justice RS Sarkaria Commission report.

In a written reply, MoS for home Nityanand Rai said: "The government is of the view that the practice of consultation with chief minister may be followed as a matter of convention, and there doesn't appear any need to amend Article 155 of Constitution."
