Appoint youths as functionaries at block levels: Congress leader P Chidambaram

PUDUKOTTAI: Making a pitch for more role for youth in the party, former Union Minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram today urged the state unit to nominate young functionaries to party posts at block levels.

The party high command in the state should appoint youths as new functionaries before December 31, he said near here.

Chidambaram, who was at Tirumayyam to participate in a district consultative meeting, said the conference of the Sivaganga Parliamentary constituency representatives would be held either at Karaikudi or Sivaganga on January 26th.

"A decision regarding the location will be decided soon," the former minister, who had represented the constituency in his native district for long, said.

On the same day, enrolment of members for the party would also be taken up, and the party functionaries should ensure enrolment of 10,000 members for each of assembly constituency, he added.
