BENGALURU: A rapidly-growing area, the CV Raman Nagar ward in the assembly constituency of same name, houses the Bagmane Tech Park, one of the city's fanciest tech parks, and the landmark DRDO. The ward begins with CV Raman Nagar and extends up to Malleshpalya, including localities such as Bhuvaneshwari Nagar, Byrasandra and Kaggadasapura. The influx of tech and defence personnel to the area has done little to improve poor roads, frequent power cuts, non-availability of Cauvery water and inefficient drainage system.

The Kaggadasapura main road between Bhuvaneshwari Nagar and Kaggadasapura first cross is a low-lying area that gets flooded with every downpour. “During heavy rains, water rises up to two feet and gushes inside nearby shops. There is no proper drainage system and no cleaning done,“ said Ramamurthy Sharma, 40, a resident of Byrasandra. He said power cuts were frequent in the night, and that “KPTCL officials don't even answer calls.“

Garbage is one of the biggest problems of Nagavarapalya. “ A pile of garbage is always there on the footpath, just 20 metres away from the Kendriya Vidyalaya DRDO school. This has become a dump yard, and civic workers cause traffic jams during office hours by parking their huge trucks in the narrow road,“ said Priyanka Sharma, a techie.

Broken footpaths and open drains in Kaggadasapura make it accident prone. “Last week, a schoolchild fell into the drain. Thanks to a fruit vendor for alerting passersby at the right time, we managed to pull the kid out. These drains are very dangerous,“ said Vikram Singh, a resident of Bhuvaneshwari Nagar.

Stray dogs and power cuts are the main grievances of residents in Malleshpalya.
