AP to levy cess on construction projects

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh government will levy one per cent cess on all construction projects and utilise the proceeds for the welfare of construction workers, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy said on Tuesday.
A welfare board for construction workers would also be constituted to look into the grievances of workers in the unorganised sector, Reddy said at the May Day celebrations here.
He gave away "Shrama Shakti" awards to 24 employees in recognition of their contributions to their organisations and Best Management Awards to 14 companies.
