HYDERABAD: The opposition TDP on Sunday demanded the resignation of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy owning moral responsibility for the police firing in Khammam district in which eight (rpt eight) persons were killed.

"Reddy is responsible for the brutal incident. He has no right to continue in office after innocent people have lost their life," party chief N Chandrababu Naidu told reporters here before leaving for Mudikonda in Khammam district to console the bereaved families.

The land struggle by Left parties had turned violent during the day long bandh yesterday when police open fire at mob of CPI (M) supporters at Mudikonda village, about 10 km from the district headquarters of Khammam, killing eight (rpt eight) persons, including a woman.

Accusing the Congress government of suppresing the movement for distribution lands to the poor, Naidu said the Chief Minister was trying to distort the facts instead of finding a solution.

He alleged the law and order situation in the state had totally collapsed.

Accompanied by his party colleagues, Naidu left for Mudikonda by road.
