Anti-Maoist operation successful in Jharkhand: DGP

Referring to the recent killing of a local businessman, Kiran Tilwani, Ahmed said police had in their possession some vital clues and the assailants would be booked soon.

JAMSHEDPUR: Jharkhand police today said that their anti-Maoist operation was being successfully carried out and the recent peaceful panchayat poll in the state was a pointer.

"Barring a few sporadic incidents, the peaceful conduct of panchayat poll is indicative of successful anti-Maoist operation and our mounting pressure on the rebels," Director General of Police, Jharkhand, Neyaz Ahmed told reporters here.

Ahmed, however, admitted that frequent planting of landmines by the ultras was a cause of worry to carry out anti-Maoist operation more vigorously. "We are looking into this aspect and shall be able to handle this problem soon," he said.

Referring to the recent killing of a local businessman, Kiran Tilwani, Ahmed said police had in their possession some vital clues and the assailants would be booked soon.

"We have a plan to set up a cell to control organised crime in the steel city and the cell will be expected to function soon," he said.

Earlier Ahmed met the deceased businessman's family members.
