HOWRAH: Sleuths of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of West Bengal police conducted a raid at the residence of a state government engineer following the recovery of cash worth over Rs 24 crore and other valuables from the house of another engineer of the erstwhile Bally municipality on Friday, police officials said today.

The raid was conducted at the residence of the sub-assistant engineer of erstwhile Bally municipality last night, but nothing could be found, they said.

Earlier on Friday, ACB sleuths had conducted raid at the residence of Pranab Adhikary, a sub-assistant engineer of the same municipality, and arrested him and his son besides recovering cash worth Rs 24 crore, ornaments and other valuables.

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress workers today held demonstrations in front of the houses of CPI(M) leader and former Chairman of Bally Municipality Arunava Lahiri and former CPI(M) MLA Kanika Ganguly for their alleged connivance with Adhikary.

The erstwhile Bally Municipality has now become part of the Howrah Municipal Corporation.
