Another FIR against Arnab Goswami, family, others for ‘deterring public servant from performing duty’

Mumbai: The Mumbai police on Wednesday filed a fresh FIR against Arnab Goswami and his family members for deterring a public servant from performing his duty. The FIR has been filed under sections 353 (deterring a public servant from performing his duty), 504 (intentional insult with an intent to provoke breach of peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intent) of IPC and under section 3 of the Prevention of Defacement of Public Property Act.

“A case has been registered against Arnab Goswami, two of his family members and two unknown persons for obstructing, assaulting, verbally abusing and intimidating a police officer on duty and also for tearing up government papers for informing the arrest of a person,” the Mumbai Police spokesperson said.

Earlier in the day, Goswami was arrested amid high drama. As per a source, an Alibaug police team and a Mumbai crime branch team headed by API Sachin Vaze reached Goswami’s residence at about 6 am.


“For over an hour, we knocked on the door but to no avail. Finally, when he allowed us in, he refused to join the probe and claimed that we assaulted him,” said an officer who was part of the team.

Goswami was first taken to NM Joshi Marg police station where a diary entry was made by the crack team and was subsequently taken to Alibaug police station where the case was registered.
