After cyclone Gaja, that hit south India last month, Tamil Nadu is set to hit by another cyclonic storm, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned. This would be the second storm to hit the southern state of India within a period of 30 days.

Last month, around 12 districts of Tamil Nadu were severely hit by cyclone Gaja that claimed lives of as many as 46 people apart from causing widespread damage to property and livestock.

IMD, in a statement, said that a well marked low pressure has been formed over southeast Bay of Bengal. "It is likely to concentrate into a depression during next 24 hours and intensify further into a deep depression during subsequent 24 hours. It is very likely to move towards south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts during next 72 hours," the weather department has added.

IMD has also issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in south coastal Andhra Pradesh and north Tamil Nadu.

"Rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy falls at isolated places is very likely on 15th & 16th Dec 2018," IMD said.
