NEW DELHI: Days after the South African envoy claimed a snake had been found inside an athlete’s room at the Games Village, another reptile surfaced at the high-security site early Friday morning.

This time, however, the snake — a 2.5-feet-long cobra — was swiftly rescued from Gate No. 2 before its presence could create a major scare.

The rescue agency, Wildlife SOS, said they received a call from Games Village at 2.35am about the snake. ‘‘ While Delhi Police unit posted at the gate monitored the snake’s movements , a rescue team reached the spot before 3am and caught the reptile in about 10 minutes,’’ the agency’s co-founder Kartick Satyanarayan said.

It was later released at the Asola sanctuary. Wildlife SOS was contracted by the OC to deal with animal emergencies at venues.
