The DVAC had filed a case against 10 academicians including the former Controller of Examinations for involvement in the racket. The vigilance body had conducted a surprise check on the premise of suspects to seize incriminating documents. The accused have been booked under provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1998, cheating, conspiracy, and other clauses, according to sources in the DVAC. A case was filed on Tuesday.
Surappa, whose appointment was questioned by opposition political parties in Tamil Nadu, said the university administration will assist in bringing to book conspirators and correct irregularities in the system.
A DVAC officer told ET: “The case was registered on Tuesday. A report generated by a Vigilance and anti-corruption officer led to the registration of the case.” The official said it would be difficult to point out the number of beneficiaries in the case as the probing agency has just begun to make its investigations. “Eventually, we may have to speak to students too,” said the officer.
According to sources, “Our investigation has just commenced. We have conducted searches and documents. We will have make inquiries with the supporting staff, and be led by our findings from there,” said the officer.
