Anna Hazare’s arrest rocks Orissa Assembly

BHUBANESWAR: Orissa Assembly on Wednesday was paralysed on the opening day of the monsoon session on the issue of Anna Hazare’s arrest. The House could not transact its business as the ruling Biju Janata Dal and Opposition BJP members joined hands in condemning the UPA government’s action against the Anna Hazare team.

The House plunged into pandemonium as soon as the question hour started. The BJP members stood up and shouted slogans against the UPA government. They demanded the House to pass a censure motion to condemn the arrest of Hazare. Soon after the question hour, the BJD members joined the chorus and demanded the resignation of the UPA government for creating an emergency like situation.

As the situation became out of control, Speaker Pradeep Kumar Amat adjourned the House for 15 minutes from 12.30 pm to 12.45 pm. When the House resumed similar situation persisted, forcing the Speaker to adjourn the forenoon session. When the House reassembled at 3.36 p.m, the BJD and BJP members resumed their anti-UPA slogan.
