Anna Hazare goes to Rajghat, meditates

The visit to Rajghat on the Independence Day was unscheduled and visitors were surprised to see the Gandhian in their midst sitting in front of the samadhi.

NEW DELHI: In a dramatic move, Anna Hazare today suddenly went to Rajghat and sat in the lawns in front of Mahatma Gandhi's samadhi taking authorities by surprise.

On the eve of his fast for a strong Lokpal Bill, Hazare went to the samadhi of the Apostle of peace and non-violence late afternoon and meditated there for over an hour.

The 74-year-old anti-corruption crusader and his supporters have been denied permission to stage their protest at Jai Prakash Narain Park here by Delhi Police.

The impromptu visit to Rajghat on the Independence Day was unscheduled and the visitors were surprised to see the Gandhian in their midst sitting in front of the samadhi amid light rain.

The visit also caught police by surprise, prompting them to rush a team of officers to the memorial to maintain law and order.

After Hazare reached Rajghat, hundreds of people reached the memorial.
