Braving his tears, the former defence minister said: "Till the day I die, I will be a Congressman. This is the first and last time I have spoken about Anil's decision. I will not talk about it anymore."
While praising Modi, Anil said: "Every Congress worker believes they are working for a family. But I believe I am working for the country." Anil had quit Congress in January after critcising BBC documentary on the 2002 Gujarat riots, taking a stand against his then party Congress.
Kerala Congress chief K Sudhakaran said Anil had not been given any party responsibilities and that his joining BJP was not a matter of concern for Congress.
"Today (Maundy Thursday) is the day of Judas (Iscariot) who betrayed Jesus Christ for a payment of 30 silver coins. Many such things will happen on that day. This (Anil joining BJP) should also be seen as such an incident," Sudhakaran told reporters here.
