Anil Ambani visits Tihar to meet Reliance ADA executives

DELHI: Reliance Group Chairman Anil Ambani visited Tihar jail and met two top executives of the group who have been in judicial custody for about two months for their alleged role in the 2G spectrum allocation scam, an executive with direct knowledge of this said.

Ambani is learnt to have spent about 30 minutes in Tihar where Reliance ADA group managing director Gautam Doshi and senior vice president Hari Nair have been lodged since April 17 after a special CBI court rejected their bail pleas. He is also learnt to have assured the two executives of the best possible legal help to fight their case.
The Central Bureau of Investigations has accused three officials of Reliance ADA Group --Gautam Doshi, Surendra Pipara and Hari Nair - of conspiracy, abetment and cheating in the 2G scam.

News agencies quoted Tihar prisons DG Neeraj Kumar as stating that Ambani had come around 5 pm in the evening and sought permission to meet Gautam Doshi and Hari Nair, which had been granted. After visiting Tihar, Anil Ambani is also learnt to have gone to AIIMS where group president Surendra Pipara has been admitted for medical treatment.

The CBI has alleged the three Reliance-ADA executives created a web of companies with the intention of concealing the fact that Swan Telecom was controlled by the Anil Ambani Group. Their actions amounted to a criminal conspiracy, according to the CBI’s version of events, to enable Reliance ADA Group Companies to get licenses for 13 circles to offer services based on GSM technology for which they were not eligible, as they already had all-India licenses based on a different technology.
