Angry workers burn alive steel factory executive in Orissa

A mob of disgruntled labourers set ablaze a 55-year-old steel factory deputy general manager at Titilagarh in Orissa's Balangir on Thursday.

BALANGIR: A mob of disgruntled labourers set ablaze a 55-year-old steel factory deputy general manager at Titilagarh in Orissa's Balangir on Thursday.

Police said a group of about 30 workers attacked Powmex steel factory Radheshyam Ray's vehicle when he was going out for lunch. They surrounded his vehicle and dragged out the driver and another official. They then poured petrol on the vehicle and threw a burning match stick inside before closing the door.

"Every time Ray tried to open the door and come out, the workers pushed him inside. He was screaming for help, but nothing happened," said Saranga Panigrahi of Titilagarh police station quoting a preliminary inquiry report.

"We have collected names of some of the persons involved in the crime. They will be arrested soon." Sources said some residents took the DGM out of the burning vehicle but Ray had by then received 90% burns. He was first taken to a local hospital and then to the district headquarters hospital at Balangir. Ray died on the way.
